My New Lifestyle

January 23, 2009 | Diet & Nutrition, Physical Fitness

I just lived the first week of my new life.

It’s Friday afternoon, just got back from the gym — I had to step up to the elliptical machine today, an old lady was on the stationary bike and I realized the other bike  didn’t have a calorie counter.   I was pleasantly surprised — the elliptical burned loads of calories, about 320 for 30 minutes on a low level setting.  I definitely “felt the burn” more too, tons more sweat;  I’ll stick with the elliptical from now on.

I haven’t talked much about my “diet.”  Well, that’s because it’s not a diet in a regular sense — it’s a lifestyle change.  There are just a few basic guidelines I’ve stuck with this entire week (and hopefully for the remainder of my life):

  • Drink water all day, everyday.
  • No sodas.  Sorry, THAT MUCH sugar has got to go.
  • No white breads.  Bread is fine, just eat wheat or rye.
  • Only low fat (2%) milk.  Again, milk is fine, just moderation.
  • Butter is your enemy — handle with caution.
  • Use salsa as a condiment for everything.  It’s really healthly.
  • Count calories at restaurants, they’re sneaky bastards.

I’m eating balanced meals that includes all kinds of dairy, meats, fruits, vegetables, etc., while trying to limit the things that aren’t so good for me — fried food and sweet drinks, basically.   My calorie intake hovers a little below 2,000 calories a day.

I hope you like my “diet.”  You can keep your money, too.  I won’t ask you to buy the DVD, the diet book, or special meals.
