344 Pounds

January 21, 2009 | Weigh-in Results

My scale arrived last night and I waited to weigh myself until this morning.  I know the best time to weigh yourself is in the morning, so I reckoned I’d wait.  My official weigh-in is 344.2 pounds;  I haven’t weighed myself since high school, half a decade ago.

Two questions quickly came to mind after I weighed myself:

  • Is this worse or better than I thought it would be?
  • What was my weight when I started my exercise and “diet” six days ago?

I don’t have answers to either of those questions, but I wish I did.

I’ll weigh myself once a week, every Wednesday morning, and post the results here.  I decided on once a week because it seems like everyone else trying to lose weight weighs themselves weekly.  Weighing yourself everyday, from what I’ve read, is extremely discouraging because of your weight fluctuations overnight.  If you weigh yourself everyday and have a lot of food still digesting, a lot of water in your body, etc., you may have gained a pound or two from the day before, regardless of the healthy diet and exercise.

What do you think that would do for motivation?

So, that’s the starting weight:  344.2 pounds.  I know I should have goals, but I don’t have any.  Some people have goals like, “I want to lose 14.6 pounds by March 15th, my prom!”  Well, I’m not going to the prom this year, so that’s out.  And, I don’t have an amount I really want to lose. The last time I was under 300 pounds, a lamp could get qualified for financing (probably);  so let’s start with that as a goal.

299 pounds, here I come.

Tyler — I’ve decided to start reading your blog from the begining, and I have to say — you’re funny. :) I am so inspiried by your transformation. Thanks for taking the time to post as often as you do, I look forward to reading the rest of the blog (even though I’m about a year late getting started!)

I’ve lost 25lbs myself, since September ‘09. Not quite as quickly as you’ve lost yours — but I’m proud of it.

Keep up the good work! :) And thanks.
