Working Out to Music

January 29, 2009

Why workout to music?  It distracts you from all the pain while on the treadmill.

Personally, I’m addicted to my iPhone.  Not only does it act as a great phone (to call people, you know), but I can surf the web, check stocks, and have it act as an alarm clock (with snooze) and wake me up every morning.  Relevant to my workout though, it’s an iPod.

I can load hundreds of songs on it, but I currently only have 17:

Atreyu – Becoming the Bull
Saving Abel – Addicted
Disturbed – Believe
Bon Jovi – Blaze of Glory
Limp Bizkit – Break Stuff
Disturbed – Devour
System of a Down – Hypnotize
Linkin Park – In the End
System of a Down – Innervision
Bon Jovi – It’s My Life
Disturbed – Just Stop
TI – Live Your Life
Cypress Hill – Rock Superstar
Limp Bizkit – My Way
Limp Bizkit – Rollin
Limp Bizkit – Take a Look Around
System of a Down – Toxicity

It’s mainly stuff I haven’t listened to since I was a kid.  I’m really not happy with the slower songs I put on there (here’s looking at you, Bon Jovi);  I plan on removing those and adding a lot more songs soon.

I need really loud and really fast music when I workout.  What I don’t want to listen to though:

  • Ladies gossiping on the treadmills
  • 35-year old drama queen on her cell phone
  • 80′s and 90′s pop music being played on the PA system
  • The 17-year old 120-pounders grunting with every repetition
  • Court shows being watched by my fellow cardio colleagues

Did I mention I need really loud music to listen to when I workout?  It’s an absolute must.
