Where is Weight Loss First Noticed?

February 12, 2009

I can see subtle changes in body composition in the videos, but nothing that makes me jump out of my chair in excitement…yet.  I’ve only lost 16 pounds so far, and while that’s a lot, that’s in comparison to the remaining 328.2 pounds.

16 pounds is only 4.6% of my starting weight of 344;  not a big difference.

Consider this analogy:  You have 80 gallons of water in your jacuzzi — someone stole (I hate thieves) 4.6% of its water, leaving you with 76.32 gallons in the jacuzzi.  Think you’d notice a difference?  You probably wouldn’t.

While I was comparing the videos, it got me thinking:  where do people lose fat from first?  After doing a couple hours of research, I’ve concluded that generally speaking, people lose weight in the stomach and the face first — but it varies from person to person.  Personally, my family and friends have told me that I have a smaller stomach;  although, I can’t say I notice much of a difference.

However, I know my face is shrinking.

Men: typically weight disappears first from our face, stomach, and upper arms.

Women were in less of a consensus (just can’t ever make up your mind, can ya ladies?).  I’ve read varying answers including their stomach, arms, chin, thighs, etc.  I am sad to report though (as were they) that the absolute first place where almost all ladies lose weight are their breasts.

Sorry ladies, don’t kill the messenger.

You know, it’s so weird. I lose weight in my face first, followed by my stomach/back/arms (not in any order). And, the weirdest part of all, I gain a cup size when I lose weight. Maybe someone should do a study on me :)

Congrats on all your success! I’m enjoying going through the older posts… Can’t fully appreciate the results without seeing the start.

The first place I noticed was my collarbone. Sounds dumb, but I hadn’t really felt it/seen it defined ever…until I was in the shower and I ran my hand over my shoulder, and I could feel it well defined. I got out of the shower and stood in front of the mirror for 10 minutes shrugging my shoulders and moving in ways to make it more pronounced. Lol! But it was my first real sign — besides what the scale said.

I noticed it in my hands. I really didn’t like my hands, but when I lost weight, I noticed my knuckles more. now, as I’ve lost 30 lbs, I can see the veins more clearly in my arms and hands. I notice that I can put my fingers together very close and they don’t touch.
The other thing, aside from my face, was, if i put my hands on my hips I feel hard bone, no squish around it.
Still waiting on legs though and upper arms though. = \

Medically, the fat most easily accessed is near our intestines and hearts, explaining why we lose from our stomachs and sadly breasts first.
