I’ve received a lot of the same questions over the past few weeks; I wanted to take some time today out of our regularly scheduled program to address them.
Why did you make a website about your weight loss?
I needed a simple, easy way to track my calories, physical activity, and overall progress. I didn’t have anything to write with at the time, so I started the blog.
Isn’t it unhealthy to lose more than 1-2 pounds a week?
I’m not a doctor, so I won’t answer that question for you. But for me and other people that are grossly overweight, losing 2+ pounds a week is perfectly healthy. If I were 150 pounds and kept losing 5 pounds a week, it’d be a different story.
Do you drink anything other than water?
I have an occasional glass of low-fat milk once every once in a while. Other than that, no, I don’t drink anything else — no juices, no alcohol, and no soda.
I workout (harder, longer, etc) than you but burn less calories. Why?
The less you weigh the less calories you’ll burn doing the same exercise. With the same exact speed, intensity, and duration on the elliptical, I would still burn a much larger amount of calories than somebody weighing 150 pounds.
Are you against (Weight Watchers, South Beach Diet, etc)?
No. If it works for you, that’s great — congrats! I’m simply telling you what worked for me and what didn’t, nothing more.
Letting other people determine how long you workout — are you crazy?
Like any endurance marathon, I’m fully prepared when it comes time to step up to the plate. Most importantly though, I wouldn’t do anything that would injure me. I’ll take breaks if necessary and my body says it’s done, I’m done.
Sorry, sadists: safety first, gimmick second.
Why can’t I find the comment I posted?
All comments are moderated — I have to approve/reject each one. And just like your e-mail inbox, I also have a SPAM folder for comments — if you don’t see your comment(s) posted within a day or two, good chance it got placed in there for some reason. If that happens, let me know — I’ll make it all better for you.
What can I do to help your weight loss journey?
Tell people about the blog. The more people that read the blog, the more accountability I have, the harder I work.
If you have any other questions for me, get in touch. I’ll see you guys bright and early tomorrow morning for Week 7’s weigh-in!

Hey Tyler, great stuff on your site here. I love the idea of getting people involved with your success to help keep you on track. I had a similar idea not to long ago and started a blog to track my training for a two-hundred mile bicycle ride this summer. I haven’t done much yet but you should swing by.
