I concur with Mike, Suzanne, and the others--counting calories is effective. It creates an accountability. My concern in stopping, at least for most, is that you tend to underestimate what you are eating, which means increased calories, and of course, weight gain.

@300 in Texas-snacking isn't necessarily a prescription for disaster. If you do count calories and you still have some "bonus" calories you haven't eaten for the day, sometimes a snack is a reward, particularly after you've worked out hard, and it's not 10:00 at night.

I think it helps to count calories big time. At least for someone who doesn't have that much to lose. Thedailyplate.com was very helpful to me for a while. I know they have changed things up lately though.

I only started losing weight after I stopped counting calories while on vacation. Ironic, right? I guess when I was thinking about calories all the time, my mind was on food more often and I wanted to eat more.

Counting calories was the best thing I ever did. Some are against it I know. But the education and raised awarness is well worth it.

Good Luck to you

It's new since January. I just drink water all day. I don't really think about snacking anymore, to be honest. I did at the beginning, and every time I did I thought to myself:

"Is this cheeto worth an extra 5 minutes at the gym?" That's how long it'd take to burn it off.
