Week 25: Weigh-in Results

July 15, 2009

Week 25 isn’t nearly as dramatic as week 24.

241-poundsJuly 15 weight: 241.4
July 08 weight: 243.8
July 01 weight: 247.6
Jun 24 weight: 252.4
Jun 17 weight: 253.8

I’ve lost 2.4 pounds in the last 7 days and 102.8 pounds in 25 weeks. Want stats from past weeks? Check out my entire 25 week weight loss progress.

I’m satisfied with the loss this week, but I know it could’ve been more.  With a little more basketball and a little lot less pizza over the weekend I probably could’ve lost another pound.  I’m not complaining, though.

Honestly, I’m surprised I still lost 2.4 pounds, especially with all of the belt loosening I did after hitting the 100-pound mark last week.

On a new front:  loose, sagging skin is starting to become a problem.  I’m not quite sure how I’ll address this yet (if at all), but I’ll keep you posted.

One battle at a time.

Since you are young, your extra skin will resorb back, but it will take time. My BF went the surgery route to lose ~170 pounds, and 5 years after her surgery (and a baby) will have a tummy & arm tuck to get rid of the excess skin. She is )or will be) about 38 when she has the plastic surgery.

Another good week! Well done!

Matt Roth July 15, 2009 at 11:34 AM

Wow man, I’m really impressed, and you’re an inspiration for many people that you can change yourself if you really put your mind to it. I went through close to that same wake up call situation about 18 months ago and went from 330 pounds to 255 pounds (and still losing!) It takes massive determination and some serious lifestyle changes, but if you really want to change, you can make it happen. Good luck man, and I’ll be keeping an eye on you!

Tyler July 15, 2009 at 12:16 PM

I hope it does bounce back, Snow.

Thanks Hanlie!

Matt, I’m glad your impressed. I’m not doing anything special though, just eating in moderation and moving a little. Congrats on your weight loss, as well!

You are doing fabulous!

I had lap band surgery almost a year ago now and have lost right under 80 pounds. I am only 29 but my skin is not bouncing back as much as I’d like and eventually I will need a tummy tuck (if I can get one, they usually don’t jump at surgery for leukemia patients). I hope you have better luck with your elasticity, make sure you get plenty of water, it helps!

Hilly July 15, 2009 at 1:36 PM

Great loss! More importantly, you’re doing it!

Matt July 15, 2009 at 3:59 PM

The extra skin thing was something i was worried about to, but at least it only loose skin. You don’t have all that weight under it anymore. Must feel great to not have 100 pounds weighting you down. Keep up the great work.

Will July 15, 2009 at 4:21 PM

Great week, Tyler. And that’s 12lbs over the last four. Dude, you’re almost in the 230′s. You’re going to catch and pass me in about another month. Damn that twenty-something metabolism, lol!

My stomach looks similar to yours, just a little less skin since I haven’t lost as much as quickly. My trainer assures me it will get better, but he says it might take a year. As young and rubbery as you probably are, I’d agree with SnowCat. I’ll bet you shrink right up. Like a Shrinky Dink. (Just google it. You aren’t old enough to have played with their coolness as a child, lol.)

Brandon S Adkins July 15, 2009 at 4:24 PM

Yeah. I’m kinda worried about the loose skin thing too.

I am definitely not losing weight nearly as fast, and you eat more calories than I do. I work out approx 30 minutes 5x a week. The problem is I’m mainly doing all treadmill work. My body can’t take the pain of the elliptical yet – not sure how to address it. By the time I hit 50 calories on the elliptical, the main is too much to bear. However, I can stay on the treadmill for an extended period of time – and I can handle really high inclines too (10-15).

So I’m not sure why I’m not losing it even close to the speed that you are. Body chemistries are different, I suppose.

Brandon S Adkins July 15, 2009 at 4:24 PM

*pain is too much to bear

bossymommy July 15, 2009 at 5:20 PM

Would it be inappropriate here to say you’re just a big fat stud? And you know I mean that like “phat,” right? You are just smokin’.

Brandon: amen to the whole “body chemistries” thing. My body seems to think I’m a hibernating bear and it’s January in Antarctica. I eat waaaaaay less than T and work out 6 days per week, an hour each day, with a mixture of weights AND cardio. Gosh I enjoy being a girl.

Will: I REMEMBER SHRINKY DINKS! I wanna be a shrinky dink, dang it!

South Beach Steve July 15, 2009 at 7:39 PM

Great job this week — another loss! The skin thing will probably have to be addressed, but as others have pointed out, some of it will take care of itself – how much remains to be seen.

kate July 15, 2009 at 9:16 PM

Sadly, pretty much when there are stretch marks the elasticity of that skin is completely gone. My friend is contemplating a tummy tuck and I’m 100% behind her on that because she worked incredibly hard to work to lose over 100lbs and she looks fabulous but the skin will not go back. My boss lost over 120lbs as well and got a tuck/lift, she looks fabulous as well. Cosmetic surgery can sometimes be covered by insurance but it’s unlikely. But there is medical financing available for things like this. Good luck as always!

kate July 15, 2009 at 9:18 PM

@Brandon, you can eat too little as well. Your body at some point will hold on to everything it can if you don’t eat enough to sustain your exercise. Try adding some more vegetable calories. Those are filling and practically freebies in the nutrition world.

Brandon S Adkins July 16, 2009 at 12:55 AM

I do take in roughly 1500-1600 a day. Some days slightly less. Maybe slightly more on weekends.

SacramentoDadOnAMission July 16, 2009 at 2:28 AM

Wow! First time visitor and some very impressive results. It’s amazing how quickly you are losing the weight. Question… are you under medical supervision?

And how are you dealing with the constant reduction of clothes sizes?

I started my journey in May to get healthier and lose 100 pounds over a one year period. My diet is different and I’m about twice your age so the weight is dropping much slower but so far I’m on target. I ask about the clothes issue as I can’t keep my old pants from falling off! I just don’t want to buy new clothes every month or so when I’ll only need them for a short time. Perhaps I should start a weight loss clothes exchange. Who knows… could be a much needed service!

Again, congrats of the great improvements. Looking forward to following your changes in the weeks to come.

I’m glad most of you think that the skin will bounce back (or at least somewhat retract back). We’ll see!

Thanks Bossy. That’s so 90s.

Will, I don’t know what Shrinky Dinks are/is. Gramps.

Brandon – I’m not sure. I’m not an expert, all I do is tell the story. That sucks, though. I know there’s a huge debate on how many, but I don’t eat a lot of calories as it is — if you’re eating 1,500-1,600 a day, maybe your body needs more like Kate said. Kate’s smart, listen to her.

Steve — Thanks for the shout out the other night.

Louis — I have like 4 pairs of shirts/shorts in XL/38. I don’t want to go buy a whole bunch of clothes because I know I’ll outgrow the size within a few months. Good luck with your journey, as well!

Everybody — thanks for the praise!

Shrinky Dinks are these plastic things that you could color and then back them so that they shrunk and could wear them as a charm or whatever….Smart thinking about not buying new clothes until you get a goal size…I went from a 26 to a 12 before buying anything new…I was lucky, my mom and I made all of my big clothes smaller as I went a long, but that only lasted until I was a 16 and then I just looked weird…

Rock on dude.

Am July 16, 2009 at 2:22 PM

not back them, bake them :)

Sara July 16, 2009 at 3:39 PM

Great Job! I totally agree with the “You’re young and the skin will bounce back” idea. But hey, even if it doesn’t a little extra skin is a whole lot better than a lot of extra fat! Keep up the good work!

julo July 16, 2009 at 6:10 PM

Great website, Tyler! You’re an inspiration to us all! I’ve lost 55+ pounds since the start of the year with diet and exercise, so I’m right there with you!

Did you at first think your saggy skin was fat? I totally have that issue. Just yesterday I was telling my husband that I wanted to get rid of my tummy flab. Then I started playing with it (yes, I’m a total freak, but he loves me anyway). Then I realized fat can’t stretch around like that. That’s skin! Loose skin! Sorry if that’s TMI, but it’s always a confidence booster for me to realize that my giggly bits are the result of weight loss, and not, you know, fat. My skin isn’t very elastic, but I’m young, and I think the diet, exercise, and water has helped keep things in relative order.

I haven’t read through all your archives yet, have you mentioned water at all? I drink probably 110+ oz of water everyday and it has done wonders for my overall healthy appearance.

Mary :: A Merry Life July 16, 2009 at 10:59 PM

Nice loss! The sagging skin is going to be an issue if you lose weight as quickly as you have. But hopefully it will bounce back and not be a problem. If not you can always have surgery.

Tyler July 20, 2009 at 6:18 AM

Surgery might be option, but I’m leaning against it right now.

Jonbo July 17, 2009 at 8:09 PM

The loose/excess skin will definitely become a bigger problem. By problem, I mean bittersweet. It’s great because you know you are actually losing the weight, but at the same time, it reminds you of your old self when you reach an ideal goal.

Me personally having lost 101lbs, the excess skin is definitely there and doesn’t exactly instill confidence in “feeling” then when I look at myself in the mirror. I too am considering saving for a tummy tuck (maybe an arm tuck but I’m not as concerned).

I consider it my “final” goal to financially support at least half or more of the cost of one and finance the other half through my bank. Skip a few vacations because while vacations are temporary, looking and truly reaching the point that I feel completely satisfied in how I look will last til I hit the dirt.

spence July 17, 2009 at 10:28 PM

Tyler, I’m so proud of you. Bumped across your site and watched your January and July weigh in videos. Tremendous results, you look so much better!!!

I’m 6’4 and 205 lbs. I’m almost 30 and my metabolism has been slowing down. I use portion control and eating frequency (small portions, more often & never eat after 6pm) to keep my weight here. I know if I went hog wild with beer and fried chicken I’d be obese.

Really proud of you. Spence

Tyler July 20, 2009 at 6:18 AM
