My life has changed a lot over the past year.
Around this time last year I found out I was going to be a dad. A few months after that, I found out I was going to have a little baby girl.
In November, I switched careers.
A few months after that, in January of 2009, I decided to lose weight. I started a little blog, joined a local gym, and got on the elliptical machine.
In March, my little girl was born and I became a daddy.
In June, I was interviewed by Newsweek about my little blog.
In July, I lost 100 pounds.
Last week, due to a disagreement with my landlord, my wife and I gave our 30-day notice. We’ll be leaving the home we have loved and lived in for the past 2 years in just a few weeks. I’ll also be leaving my gym.
Saturday, I bought pants with a 34-inch waist — down from 48.
As of today, I’ve lost 109.8 pounds. My daughter goes to daycare for the first time. I found out we’ll be moving into a new house on August 29th.
I just thought you’d like to know how my life is changing.

That’s a lot of change for one person in a year! You need to stay focused on your weight loss though or it’ll come back to bite you…
I have no doubt that you will remain on track and speak on the transformational power of commitment.
Find a new gym NOW. You also may want to look into some fitness dvds. I am using power 90 now- not the p90x you see on TV that is too intense for me. You can probably find them pretty cheap on ebay.
I’m looking for a gym — probably going to be Gold’s Gym. Any experience with them?
best of luck with the move
Thirty-fours? Damn. How much fun was that?
And, hey, it’s going to be hard to find ANY landlord that will put up with you blaring Gwar and Dethklok at 3am.
It’s a little tight. I’m not there totally yet. But, I’m well within a 36 and 34 will be sitting loosely on me by the end of the month.
I’m listening to Pink at 3AM. I’m starting to listen to your music choices lately.
Tyler,
Keep you eye on the ball and roll through these changes. Doing it successfully will have a big impact on your long-term ability to keep the weight off! Good luck!!!
Don’t be afraid of change. Be afraid of stagnation. If change did not exist, a flower would be just a seed hidden in the ground. Go forth and blossom Tyler.
34′s?????? Nice!!! And change is good, change is good…..
Sometimes life feels like Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.
That is so much change – especially becoming a dad. At least there’s been a lot of good to balance out the not-so-good and plenty of exercise to help manage stress. Can you imagine how you’d be coping with fatherhood, the career change and all if you didn’t have exercise to use?
I’d be a lot more tired, which is hard to believe.
As a parent myself, I cannot IMAGINE how you guys manage an infant and still have time/energy to do everything you do. I’m working hard to lose weight myself, and I’m really looking forward to having more energy at my goal weight, as well as being able to workout to maintain a healthy weight, instead of workout to lose weight.
The truth of the move is that his wife is tired of all those hot blonde women in sports cars that park out front waving in the windows since you lost the weight :-)
Seriously though, good luck with the move. I have moved myself this year and I know just how stressful it is.
The good side is once you move, what a difference it can have on your life and things can get so much better!
What you do is helping me to do the same and so far I have lost 20 pounds, just at the start of my journey but to know someone CAN do it is such a boost.
So thanks again and best wishes!
