Counting Calories: October 12 – 17

October 18, 2009 | Counting Calories

You might notice there’s an extra day in there.

I’m starting to count (and post) calories for the entire week, not just Monday through Friday.  That means you’ll be able to see what I eat during my “cheat days” on the weekend when I watch football games, go out socializing, etc.

Today you’ll see Monday – Saturday, next week Sunday – Saturday.

Monday (1,605 calories)

6 am: Frosted Mini-Wheat, buttered toast w/ jelly = 460
10 am: large banana = 135
12 pm: heaping turkey sandwich w/ light mayo, mustard, cheese = 390
5 pm:  Applebee’s cajun lime tilapia with mashed potatoes = 620

Tuesday (1,775 calories)

6 am: Frosted Mini-Wheat, buttered toast w/ jelly = 460
10 am: large banana = 135
12 pm:  peanut butter and jelly sandwich (x2) = 600
5 pm:  large bowl of chili with 10 saltine crackers = 580

Wednesday (1,575 calories)

7 am: egg sandwich (2 eggs, fried, on bread with light miracle whip) = 280
10 am: large banana = 135
12 pm: heaping turkey sandwich w/ light mayo, mustard, cheese = 390
3 pm:  Promax double fudge chocolate 70-calorie bar = 70
6 pm:  baked potato smothered with leftover chili, light butter/cheese = 700

Thursday (2,335 calories)

7 am:  3 mini-biscuits, 3 scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of bacon = 490
10 am: large banana = 135
1 pm:  KFC’s grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, kid’s sweet tea = 820
3 pm:  Promax double fudge chocolate 70-calorie bar = 70
6 pm:  BLT w/ cheese, handful of Pop Chips = 650
7 pm:  2 chocolate chip cookies = 170

Friday (2,415 calories)

7 am:  Nature’s Valley granola bars, two chocolate chip cookies = 360
10 am:  large banana = 135
1 pm: BBQ, white rice with hash, coleslaw, hashbrowns (2) = 720
6 pm:  Fatz club sandwich w/ onion rings, lg. Pepsi = 1,200 est.

Saturday (2,270 calories)

9 am:  3 large biscuits, butter and jelly = 520
12 pm:  Fair food fries, corndog, 10 ounces of Pepsi = 800
6 pm:  12 PM: Ye Ole Fashioned cheeseburger, fries, sm. dr. pepper = 950

I haven’t had much time to make myself a real breakfast (cooking, you know?) for a while, but I can’t tell you how much of a difference it made switching the kid’s cereal for the breakfast with eggs, bacon, and biscuits.  I didn’t get hungry nearly as quickly Thursday morning as I did Tuesday.  I also had more energy.

Not all calories are created equal.

Tyler, I just started following your blog. What is your daily calorie limit? You give me motivation to carry on.

I don’t really have a limit. I like to stay below 1,800-2,200 calories, but that’s negotiable.

Tyler, thanks for posting the weekend updates. :)
I know it’s a lot of hard work but it will pay off dividends in a few months.

If you’re like me, you like a big spread on Sunday’s for football. Here’s a tip I picked up from a friend. Have all the food on the table in the kitchen and make a plate and bring it to the living room to eat while watching. If it’s not in front of you, you won’t snack mindlessly (especially during those tense situations) and you can keep better track of food intake.

Good luck!

That’s a good idea. I’m more of a Saturday football fan, not Sunday. Go Gamecocks!

Eggs do seem to stick really well. I like mine with a little cheese and a slice of Ezekiel toast.

I have been setting aside Saturday as my cheat day! Still have to live a little bit. My goals on a Saturday’s is to stay within my weight maintence level. It is tough while tailgating!

Ever try eggbeaters? I have been using them in subsitute for egg – not to bad, least I think – only 30 cal per 1/4 cup

Saturday is by far my cheat day. I’m a college football fan and I can’t watch a game eating salad and carrots. I don’t like associating food with an event or socializing, but let’s be real, I like eating and watching football.

I haven’t tried eggbeaters, but I don’t really want to take away calories from breakfast — I need to have more calories in the morning and less in the afternoon!

I agree with you on that, T. Plus, I think egg beaters are icky.

Couple of questions:
Do you plan your meals out in advance or just count as you go? Also, what type of bread do you use for your sandwiches. Thanks for the continued inspiration. Just wish I could drop weight the way you have been.

I plan my meals in advance. Not like days in advance, but I tend to plan my meals before the next one. I’ll know at lunch what I’m going to have for dinner.

If you don’t plan your meals at least a few hours in advance you’ll end up stopping by the place with the greasy bags and 99 cent heart attacks for a quick, easy meal.

I’m done with those meals.

Oh, and bread — honey wheat.
