344 pounds vs. 219 pounds

November 6, 2009

What does it look like to lose 125 pounds?

344-pounds-219-pounds

I realized some time ago that the best motivation to lose weight wasn’t relayed by typing on my keyboard — but by posting two simple pictures side by side.

Not only do before and after pictures motivate other people (my weight loss pictures is by far the most visited page), but they motivate me as well.  The before shots remind me why I started running.

The after shots motivate me to keep running.

Absolutely fantastic! What an inspiration!!!

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:43 PM

Thanks Petchy!

Greg November 6, 2009 at 8:08 AM

Dude, seeing your side by side is why I put one on my blog. Definitely instant motivation.

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:43 PM

I saw that Greg. Nice blog!

Patten November 6, 2009 at 8:16 AM

Is that your “model” face? Blue steel!

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:43 PM

You bet it is!

will November 6, 2009 at 8:29 AM

That’s awesome, Tyler. You really look fantastic. And are those some little guns trying to peek out from that t-shirt, lol?

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:44 PM

I don’t know about that. They might be really little guns, but that stage really hasn’t started yet. That’s coming, though.

Steve November 6, 2009 at 8:30 AM

It’s hard to believe that after pic is even the same person…wow.

Steve November 6, 2009 at 8:34 AM

and in about 50 million ways its NOT the same person, but still.

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:44 PM

Can you tell that it is, though? I’ve wondered about that — can you see that it is the same person?

I can see the same person, but my point of view is skewed.

Steve November 8, 2009 at 10:47 AM

Honestly, I can’t really see it. I can look at the picture of you at 283 pounds and see the same person (albeit smaller), but I can’t see it in the bigger pics.

Tigerlilly November 6, 2009 at 8:30 AM

You look awesome! …. and yes, it is very motivating to see the change. Reminds me, I need to go run. Bye!!

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:44 PM

How much did you run?

bossymommy November 6, 2009 at 8:31 AM

Holy crap, T. Is that even the same person? Dare I say you look smokin hot? I know your wife reads this, but if things don’t work out between the two of you…well…you know where to find me. :)

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:45 PM

Thanks, but I’m happily married. I’m about to go out for a wonderful night with my wife and my daughter. We are going to get some sandwiches and ice cream!

Gina November 6, 2009 at 8:48 AM

Incredible.

suzanne November 6, 2009 at 8:53 AM

Wow what a transformation! Congrats

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:50 PM

Thanks, it’s been a long journey.

Leah November 6, 2009 at 8:57 AM

Rock on, Tyler!!

Nick R November 6, 2009 at 9:37 AM

Congrats! Definitely, some guns showing up. Are you still doing weight training?

When I started working out, I started looking at myself in the mirror all the time. (I still do.) My wife teases that I’m vain, but for me, like you, it’s motivation and a progress report. If it helps you stay healthy, be vain all you want!

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:46 PM

I’m doing weight training, but it’s inconsistent. I workout maybe one or two nights every couple of weeks.

My wife teases me, as well. I went the first 20+ years of my life ignoring mirrors, and I hope I’m not becoming conceited, but I do spend a little bit more time in front of them these days.

You are an inspiration Tyler, this past week has been particularly hard for me, I gained 3 pounds but I am starting over this week and we’ll see how it goes.

Don November 6, 2009 at 10:08 AM

I don’t know you from Adam, but I think you can do it man!

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:47 PM

It’s not a race, not every week has to be a huge loss. Just keep going and you’ll get there eventually. Every day is a new day — don’t let a bad gain ruin all your goals.

Don November 6, 2009 at 10:07 AM

You make those “Biggest Loser” contestants look lame man. Good job!

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:47 PM

Thanks!

beej November 6, 2009 at 10:16 AM

Great job! I love the comparison. ust think of how different you’ll look after another 25 or so pounds!! Yikes.

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:48 PM

I can’t even imagine. We’ll see though, won’t we?

Danielle November 6, 2009 at 11:46 AM

I was going to be lazy and not go to the gym today, but then you made me feel bad. Thanks a lot! Now I have to go. ;)

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:48 PM

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:48 PM

She’s proud of me as well. She doesn’t think I need to lose 25 pounds, but I do. Good luck with your goals and your blog! It rocks!

Stephanie November 6, 2009 at 12:37 PM

Your weight loss reminds me of my boyfriend. He lost about 120 pounds five years ago, and has been struggling a little to deal with what it means to not be the fat guy anymore, because that’s what he spent his life being. It makes him sad that people didn’t talk to him much when he was big, but when the same people saw him post-weight loss, they wanted to get to know him. It’s amazing how overweight people are ignored, if not outright teased, especially in school. My boyfriend is very attractive, but I don’t know how nobody managed to see him for the great guy that he is when he was was bigger. Anyway, I wonder… how do you deal with your new status as a “hot guy”? Does it change anything for you? Have you dealt with the emotional parts of what it means to be average weight, or are you focusing more on the physical for now?

bossymommy November 6, 2009 at 5:38 PM

Aha! See? A second to my hot guy notion.

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:49 PM

That might be a good idea for a blog post. I haven’t really sat back and thought about it, but I definitely get treated better not being obese. It’s sad but it’s so completely obvious in all aspects of my life.

With that being said, it doesn’t really make me sad — it’s just a cold, cold dose of reality I’ll have to deal with, just like being obese was.

Lisa R November 6, 2009 at 2:21 PM

You look great! Congrats!

The crazy thing is… you just lost an entire person’s weight. Keep up the good work! :)

Tyler November 6, 2009 at 5:50 PM

Well, a small person’s weight. Another 25 pounds and we’re talking a decent size female, you’re right!

Charity November 6, 2009 at 7:05 PM

MAN, look at you! Looking good, kid!

My pictures are here!

Tyler November 8, 2009 at 11:11 AM

Nice before and after pictures! Congrats!

sarah November 6, 2009 at 11:11 PM

you are looking good!! your wife is very lucky :o)

Tyler November 8, 2009 at 11:11 AM

It’s ME who is the lucky one :)

kate November 8, 2009 at 5:52 PM

Ahahaha! I heartily approve of this!

Justine November 8, 2009 at 9:46 PM

(This is sort of cheating, but) If you don’t count the estimated weight of your excess skin, you might reach your goal weight sooner than you think! =) Just saying…

Skinny Minny November 9, 2009 at 3:00 PM

Wow. That is so incredibly inspiring. Congratulations!
