Fat Jeans vs. Skinny Jeans

November 2, 2009

I’m marching through the 220s.  And pant sizes.

Here are my old “fat” jeans overshadowing my new 34-inch pants:

These skinny khakis (not jeans at all, I suppose) were bought at Target just this last weekend.  It’s amazing — cheaper and more convenient — to buy clothes at Target.  Or Belk.  Or American Eagle.  Or any store or department for that matter that doesn’t have Big and Tall in its name.

I’ve lost 14 inches off my waist in the last 40 weeks.  I’ve gone from wearing 48-inch waist pants in January to wearing pants with a 34-inch waist.

And we’ve got 26.4 pounds left to go.

That looks cartoonish if you know what I mean… it’s such a huge difference, the khakis look like little kid pants.

INCREDIBLE

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 7:28 AM

I know exactly what you mean. I love it.

Leah November 2, 2009 at 7:57 AM

Yay! I rarely weigh myself – going by how my clothes fit works better for me. Recently my weigh plateaued, but I was still getting smaller. Muscle is denser than fat; I was gaining muscle as fast as I was loosing fat.
This visual is inspiring. Keep up the great work!!

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 10:58 AM

It’s VERY inspiring! Good luck, Leah!

suzanne November 2, 2009 at 7:58 AM

That is incredible!! Congrats on rocking your plan :)

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 10:58 AM

Thanks :)

Amy S November 2, 2009 at 8:19 AM

Congrats to you! I cannot WAIT to have more clothes options as well. :)

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM

You’ll love it!

Juncti November 2, 2009 at 9:46 AM

I’d love to get to this stage. Not sure how long it will take. Of course I still have to deal with the tall part of the big and tall equation. There’s no diet for that.

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 10:59 AM

Being tall won’t kill you, but big will. So, if you still need to shop in the “tall” section, no worries at all. :)

Britty November 2, 2009 at 9:52 AM

Unbelievable!

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM

It is! Thanks for the comment, Britty.

will November 2, 2009 at 10:28 AM

That’s crazy, man. And to think all that extra space was just fat. You’ve had an amazing year!

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM

Yeah, it’s hard to remember those days. It’s been an INCREDIBLE year.

Matt November 2, 2009 at 11:09 AM

Way to go.

I’m loving it as well – I paid $13.99 for a pair of khakis at Kmart over the weekend. 4 months ago, I would have paid $40-$50 at Casual Male.

I’ve also saved a pair of jeans from when I started for that exact type of picture.

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 5:31 PM

Yeah, that’s where I used to shop, Casual Male Big & Tall. The prices were ridiculous for just a simple shirt or pair of pants.

I’ve donated most of my big pairs of clothing to Goodwill — but I’m keeping a couple of each for keepsakes.

bossymommy November 2, 2009 at 11:19 AM

14 inches, Tyler! Ridiculous! So happy for you and your pants.

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 5:32 PM

Thanks, my new pants thank you as well.

bossymommy November 2, 2009 at 7:47 PM

Weird. I’ve never had a man’s pants talk to me before. Oh, wait, that might not be entirely true…

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 8:42 PM

Oh.

Trimble Epic November 2, 2009 at 11:24 AM

“I’ve lost 14 inches off my waist in the last 40 weeks.”

That’s just awesome. That’s the true measure of success, right there my friend :)

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 5:32 PM

It is. It’s such an amazing feeling.

Steve November 2, 2009 at 12:09 PM

HoLy CrAp, DuDe!

That’s a heck of difference right there in pant size, and the 14 inches lost? Sa-weet!

Really makes me miss my 34w pants, and even my one 32w pair of jeans, hopefully we’ll be reunited soon.

Congrats!

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 5:33 PM

Where are you at now? I don’t even have a 32w or 34w pair of pants to go back to! I haven’t worn this size since middle school.

Coley November 2, 2009 at 12:36 PM

work. it. out. mista! That’s amazing! Go you :)

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 5:33 PM

I am! Nice progress yourself, Coley.

beej November 2, 2009 at 2:44 PM

That’s so awesome! It’s those moments that really boost your motivation, huh?

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 5:34 PM

Yeah. It seems like everyday is just a slow and steady struggle, but as soon as I put on my old 48w pants my day gets infinitely better.

I’m going to have to take a picture of me wearing them soon.

kate November 2, 2009 at 2:52 PM

If you ever buy leggings, which is what skinny jeans are, I wish a split butt seam upon you. DO NOT ENCOURAGE THE 80s!!

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 5:34 PM

I’m not going to buy “true” skinny jeans.”

Don’t worry :)

Steve November 2, 2009 at 5:20 PM

I’ve been reading your blog for a few weeks now and none of your posts have struck me as much as this one did – I grew out of those same AE jeans about a year ago.

Congrats on the weight loss, you are inspiring.

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 5:35 PM

Hey Steve — glad this post stuck out with you. You’ll be back in those AE jeans soon enough.

What kind of posts would encourage you more? I would like to make posts that really reach out to more people.

Steve November 2, 2009 at 6:07 PM

The “Then-’n-Now”s always hit me the hardest.

A primer on your beginning days or your “pit falls to avoid” would be nice, too.

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 8:43 PM

I’ll get right on both of those.

SandraLee November 2, 2009 at 5:51 PM

LOL…I was going to say the exact thing that KevinOkay said. I thought those were little kid pants when I first looked at the photo. You will always remember 2009 as the year you became a dad and got fit! Very very nice.

Tyler November 3, 2009 at 7:10 AM

That’s one amazing year.

sue November 2, 2009 at 5:52 PM

That’s MY boy!!
Love Ya
Mom

Tyler November 2, 2009 at 8:31 PM

Good thing that’s not embarrassing or anything.

Patten November 2, 2009 at 8:52 PM

That is simply incredible. I have a closet full of clothes that don’t fit me. I can’t wait til the day I can actually wear a suit that isn’t “portly”. Although I do have a lot of workout clothes that aren’t gonna fit when I’m done. Small sacrifices, right?

Charity November 2, 2009 at 11:52 PM

Way to go, Tyler! I was so excited when I couldn’t shop at Lane Bryant anymore because their stuff was too big. I even had to return some bracelets because they were too big for my arm!

Sandralee November 3, 2009 at 5:20 PM

Ok, I know this is early, but its Tuesday night and I am eagerly awaiting the picture tomorrow of the scale that says 219!

Tyler November 3, 2009 at 5:20 PM

You and me both!

Aimee Smith November 3, 2009 at 8:25 PM

Pics like this are so motivating, especially if you are having a bad day. I know I don’t always see the progress I’ve made because I see myself every day. But seeing pictures really help. You’re doing great!

James Trapani January 13, 2010 at 2:05 PM

Question for you… I’m 219 lost about 23 pounds so far. I’m still struggling trying to fit into 38 inch jeans. You wear size 34? Good for you.
