how to lose pounds

The Best Weight Loss Motivation

November 20, 2009 | Weight Loss Pictures

I was in the middle of writing a long-winded post on how to motivate yourself to lose weight again and I simply couldn’t finish writing it.  Nothing should motivate you, or me, more than this:

before-after

On the left:  4XL shirt, 48-inch waist pants, sleep apnea, high blood pressure.
On the right:  Large shirt, 34-inch waist pants and a clean bill of health.

All in a matter of 42 weeks.

Yes, very nice job, man. I am amazed at what you have achieved. Can’t wait to hear that you crossed the finish line at the Cooper 10K. I will be there too!

Will you? We should definitely meetup for some hot wings or something afterward. I’m going to be starved!

Kevin November 25, 2009 at 8:15 AM

Yeah I will be there! Crystal (the one who commented above) and I work together and there are several of us who are going to run Cooper. That would be awesome to grab some wings after!

Tyler,

I bought an elliptical machine from NordicTrack earlier this week and found your site from a Google search when I was making the decision. I’m 6′3, 370ish pounds, and 35 years old. I am hoping to begin a journey similar to yours and I really find your story and method to be inspirational to me. I may even start my own weight loss blog!

Tyler November 20, 2009 at 7:17 PM

Hi Kyle, I’m glad you found my blog. Good choice on an elliptical machine. It helped me lose 100 pounds and it should help you do the same.

Let me know if you start a weight loss blog!

Nice to see you again, Fred! Congrats on that outstanding weight loss. You’re right, it is an amazing way to spend January 1st.

Semele November 20, 2009 at 2:20 PM

Congrats!

You haven’t mentioned your wife much in your posts. I assume that’s partly because this is your journey, not hers. However, I’m curious how this whole thing has been for her. If you don’t want to discuss it because she wants her thoughts/feelings to remain private, I can certainly respect that. I just wondered because I know for me, my husband’s support and encouragement are important to me, and a big help.

I have a post coming up dedicated to my wife. This thing has certainly been wild for her, as well.

Juncti November 20, 2009 at 2:37 PM

So the sleep apnea went away? I just got diagnosed with that last Friday (although I’ve probably had it for a long time now).

I’m hoping that with my diet and weight loss that might one day go away.

Reply

Tyler November 20, 2009 at 7:19 PM

Yessir, completely away. My weight was 100% responsible for it and losing it 100% got rid of it.

Kevin November 20, 2009 at 2:48 PM

You have done an amazing job and I just wanted to let you know that I found you well into my own weight loss journey. In the last 28 weeks I have lost 8o lbs. I have gone from 334 to 254 and I am working toward 224. I know how much will power and discipline it takes to get where we have gotten and I applaud your efforts.

Wonderful, wonderful, and wonderful!

I bet that little girl of yours will be crawling soon, if she isn’t already. Having the energy to chase after her will be a huge motivation, I’m sure.

Have you found your general energy level throughout the day has improved?

Reply

Tyler November 20, 2009 at 7:20 PM

She’s getting close to crawling, really close! My general energy level is amazing throughout the day. You have no idea!

josie November 20, 2009 at 5:03 PM

When I first found this site, I weighed 355 pounds and was immediately inspired by the similarities I saw in you then and myself now. I refer back to your RSS feed daily for motivation, and I have a similar side by side you posted a week or two ago set as my wallpaper.. Thanks for sharing your progress, it truly does provide motivation as well as belief in the ability to realize similar results =]

Sandeep November 21, 2009 at 1:43 AM

Hi Ty,

I came to the party late, and so your effort and results are that much more dramatic to me. I really admire the spirit with which you started – ” I’m trying to lose weight so I can see my baby girl marry the boy she ends up in love with in 25 years”, and how that thought no longer figures in your posts anymore, I think because now you know you will.

I am sure in 6 months you will also stop talking about your 10k run because by then it would have become a walk in the park for you.

I have been through your entire blog history and would like to tell you that I am one of those people who just has to lose about 30 pounds, to fit into the size 32 jeans i used to 6 years ago, but my goals like yours are healthier living and thats why though our starting points are different we have so much in common.

And that is why when I couldn’t get the scale to budge in my first 2 weeks of lifestyle changes, I looked to your blog for motivation to keep at it. The scale has started cooperating now and I am on my way.

Reply

Tyler November 23, 2009 at 7:39 AM

Hey Sandeep – that seems how it works. Everything is a big feat until you do it, then it’s not. I used to talk about how it was hard doing level 20 on the elliptical, but I can do that with ease these days.

Keep it and at that scale will keep cooperating! Not every week, but most days, which is good enough.

Kat November 22, 2009 at 1:07 AM

Wow. Congratulations Tyler. You have done an amazing job in 42 weeks. Very inspiring!

Tyler, I’ve been following you for a while now and I can’t believe your outcome! You are truly an amazing person and I wish you the very best. In this case pictures really do say 1000 words. I only need to lose about 50 pounds and I’ve been struggling for years. I have both an elliptical & a treadmill at home and I can’t seem to get on either one of them regularly and when I do it’s no more than 10 minutes. I ADMIRE your strength & motivation just don’t get too thin on us :) You look very healthy now. I keep telling myself “if Tyler can do it, so can I” :)

Awesome job Tyler! It’s nice to see that you have figured it out: it’s not about diet, but rather a lifestyle change. I struggled with my weight off and on for much of my adult life (even did 20 years in the Navy). Nothing compares to an ongoing good diet and exercise program. And, there’s nothing wrong with giving in to your cravings sometimes instead of the constant denial. Keep up the good work and God speed!
