Music is the focus of my workouts.  Some people watch television, chat with a workout buddy, etc., but I’m engulfed in my music.  I turn my iPod’s volume to about 95% and let the fast, angry music fuel my workouts.  I’m the sweet, funny guy when I get back home with my family.  Not at the gym.

What’s on your workout playlist?  What songs should I add?

I’d say you should definitely add some White/Rob Zombie. There’s a lot of anger there to really pump you up.

Personally, I can’t listen to a static playlist when I workout; the music gets predictable and distracting. Instead, I listen to Pandora on my Droid. Just pick a genre or base band, and it streams a wide variety of songs along those lines. Best of all, it’s free!

Tyler January 15, 2010 at 10:39 PM

White/Rob Zombie is such a good combination. I don’t mind static playlists, because they’re not really static to me. I can change them on a daily basis, I plug my iPod into the PC as soon as I get home from the gym every night.

Stayin’ Alive – BeeGees
World, Hold On – from “Noah’s Arc Jumping the Broom” movie sdtrk.

I’m not allowed to listen to the BeeGees.

My ears forbid it. :)

Same here (:
Not a big fan of the BeeGees, I’m more of a Breaking Benjamin, Madina Lake kind of girl (:

Bob January 15, 2010 at 9:45 AM

I like your list – I’ll have to check a few of those out. What song usually begins your workout and what ends it? Also, did you list Paparazzi twice on purpose?

Here’s one that I use constantly that I didn’t see on yours:

Kevin Rudolf – Let It Rock

I didn’t know she was listed twice, but that explains why I’m already sick of Paparazzi.

Let it Rock is a good song, thanks.

Bad Girlfriend- Theory of a Deadman
Sin with a Grin- Shinedown
One and Only- Timbaland and Fall Out Boy

Never heard of Timbaland, but I love Shinedown.

Sparkle – Phish (trust me on this one).

Reply

Dan January 15, 2010 at 12:00 PM

LOL….just listened to this, and I’m not getting the “THIS TUNE PUTS ME IN THE ZONE” vibe from it, but to each their own…

Reply

Tyler January 16, 2010 at 1:51 AM

Can’t stand Phish. For real.

Reply

Jim January 17, 2010 at 9:37 PM

I love Phish and was surprised to hear it coming out of the spinning class at the gym I used to belong to (which has since closed).

Thanks! Been looking for a good workout playlist. This list should give me plenty of tracks I’ll enjoy.

Reply

Tyler January 16, 2010 at 1:51 AM

What songs on the list are your favorites?

Reply

Cory January 15, 2010 at 10:46 AM

I was going to ask when you would post your playlist again…. quit reading my mind! We have a lot of the same songs on our playlists…. Linkin Park is one of my motivaters! I have a few Britney Spears songs, (yes I do, shoot me) they are fast but less pounding than the Linkin Park songs. Rhianna has some great upbeat music too.
I see some songs on your playlist that I want to check out, thanks. (a 46 year old mom LOL)

Reply

Tyler January 16, 2010 at 1:52 AM

Linkin Park is a new classic. I love their music.

I don’t know how many Rhianna songs I’ll be listening to while I workout, but I don’t mind Britney Spears.

Always been a fan of the Rocky movie series compilation, if you can tolerate 80’s synth jams

Reply

Love it, Hearts on Fire is a great track from that series.

Jesus Walks-Kanye West (Perfect beat for abs)
Def Leppard-Animal or Pour Some Sugar on Me (Just for fun)

Love your blog!!

Reply

Tyler January 16, 2010 at 1:53 AM

Thanks, I love your comment! Kanye West, personal problems aside, can make some really powerful music.

Pour Some Sugar on Me is a classic, too.

Killer playlist! BOB is one of my clutch songs when I really just want to get off the treadmill.

I also really like “The Hand that Feeds” by Nine Inch Nails. I ran an entire 5K just listening to that song.

Reply

Tyler January 16, 2010 at 1:54 AM

Bombs over Baghdad is an extremely fast song. Andre 3000 (or whatever you want to call him) is so talented.

Unfortunately though, I’m sad to report that I never really got into the NIN. It’s probably because of the lack of talent.

:)

I have been working out to Rise Against and The Bouncing Souls. I need to make a good workout playlist so I don’t get bored of one band but way too much of the music on my iPod is my normal winter slow music. It’s hard to work out to Death Cab for Cutie or Mates of State. +44 and The Riverboat Gamblers will be added to my workout play list too.

Reply

Tyler January 16, 2010 at 1:54 AM

Yeah, I can’t listen to slow music. I wouldn’t be able to push myself in the gym listening to Death Cab for Cutie.

Reply

Steve January 15, 2010 at 1:05 PM

Could deal w/o the Garth Brooks, but otherwise I like that playlist.

Did you change the layout last night?

Reply

Tyler January 15, 2010 at 10:36 PM

I love Garth Brooks. You need more culture, son. And yes, you might have seen a sneak preview of this design. You must have been up on 344 late!

Mr. Brightside is a favorite of mine. Never listened to Spaceman, though.

Cake is good, but I’ve never listened to I Will Survive by them. I will definitely have to put that on “the” list.

Great topic!
Personally, I’ve gotta have Sublime in my workouts. I love Santeria. Gets me going. Also like April 29,1992, Wrong Way, What I Got, and more. Might be a little slow for you, but their songs take my mind off the silly notion that I can’t do one more pushup or go one more mile.
Also, I didn’t see any Red Hot Chili Peppers. That’s another great one for me.
Oh, and Abba, but I think that’s a girl thing. :)

Reply

Tyler January 16, 2010 at 1:56 AM

Like Nine Inch Nails, I tried to like Sublime but I just couldn’t. I am not sure why, I just don’t like their tracks. Lyrics are fine, it’s just the tempo/beat or whatnot.

RHCP has some good workout songs, too. We can definitely agree with some Red Hot Chili Peppers.

And Abba — no idea.

Stella January 15, 2010 at 2:25 PM

I love that you have Powerman 5000 on your playlist – I didn’t think anyone not from Boston even knew who these guys were. Since I also have Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on my gym playlist, here’s some that I’m sure you’ll like:

Misfits – We are 138
Joy Division – Warsaw
The Ting Tings – Shut Up and Let Me Go
Bring Tha Noize – Public Enemy w/Anthrax

If you want to search out a couple of obscure bands, try “Sweatpants” by Rock City Crimewave or “Roll” by Cracktorch.

Reply

Tyler January 16, 2010 at 1:57 AM

I’ve heard of Public Enemy, but none of the other artists that you listed on your playlist. I’ll be downloading them shortly!
