I’ve had the mood the last few days that I can take on the world. The world tour starts this Wednesday with weigh-in number 67. I plan on stepping on the scale Wednesday and have it tell me I weigh under 200 pounds.
It’ll be a good day. An epic day. But only one of many to come.
I want to learn how to dance. I want to take piano lessons. I want to write a book. I’m going to join another adult sports league in Columbia this summer — basketball, kickball, maybe softball — I haven’t decided. I have more 5ks, 10ks, and marathons lined up. I want to take some classes on nutrition. I have a list of tasks/goals I want to accomplish with my body (coming soon).
Losing 100+ pounds will look easy compared to these new goals.
Many people have asked about my plans for the future, specifically the future of the blog. An e-mail I received last week asked:
Are you going to quit posting after you reach your goal?
No.
In addition, some other folks see me reaching my goal weight of under 200 pounds as the climax of this journey. Some think I’ll pack up my bags and come back every now and then to talk about how my life is doing.
That’s not going to happen.
While reaching this 16-month goal is a pretty big deal, it’s just a milestone in the journey, not the journey. If I reach 199 pounds Wednesday it’ll be one mission accomplished and the beginning of a new, tougher, larger one.
Let’s dance.

Glad to hear you’ll continue sharing your journey with us.
It will be a big journey. I got a surprise in store — stay tuned!
If the surprise is a feature film, I’m available to play 280 lb Tyler — for now. Working to be more of a 250 lb Tyler soon.
Man, piano would be awesome. So would guitar. And, don’t forget martial arts…talk about a demanding adventure.
I had a setback this week, but am more determined than ever now after realizing how out of control I was this past week. Ugh.
I know you’ll get below 200lb at #67!
Here’s hoping! And guitars are for hippies.
LOL!
you are so right.
all of this is one goal in many in the sense that, for me, nothing is over till IM OVER :)
Nice to see you around these parts. Awesome blog.
Those are cool plans. Good luck with this weeks weigh in.
Thanks.
I agree. It will be a HUGE accomplishment once you hit your ultimate weight loss goal, but the journey has just begun! I look forward to reading about your continued progress Tyler. Not only with your weight, but with your life.
Thanks, Kyle. We’re going to do some big things after we hit 199 pounds and I’m glad you’ll be around to watch it all!
Ok seriously, this is YOUR FAULT as you put the song in my head
:-) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

love the kickball option and of course the dancing and all of the brilliant ideas….
glad that you have re-gained your “look out world cause here I come” attitude!
Me too.
*Standing ovation* Yes PLEASE don’t go anywhere! Although I’m mostly a lurker, I come here regularly for inspiration to continue my own journey.
And I agree with Roly Poly…martial arts would be kickass!
I’m not going anywhere! Martial arts is simply too time consuming, I’m going have to increase weight training A LOT for my next goal.
My schedule is already packed enough.
ah yes, the maintaining, which is probably the more difficult part since you get the emotional release of reaching your goal, you have to fight the urges your brain gives you to ease back into your old behavior.
It happens slowly. You eat a cheeseburger, gain no weight, then it is easy to assume your body is immune to gaining weight.
You will do good because you don’t want to go back and start the journey again (or have to change the name to 388pounds)..
Proud of you for getting this far, man.
I don’t plan on maintaining my weight. I plan on changing my body a whole lot more.
It makes me smile that you’re proud of me!
You’re doing awesome! I’ve been hovering for awhile, but had to comment. I read so much about how you motivate and inspire people in their comments on your blogs, and I’m really glad that you’ll continue to do so in the future, despite reaching your goal.
It’s just one goal, I have another goal that I haven’t shared with anybody… that’ll be announced after I hit 199.
Thanks for commenting, please continue to do so! I love reading comments, I read every single one even though I may not always find the time to be able to reply back.
Awesome blog, by the way.
Oh, yeah! Keep those new challenges coming! I think that’s the danger of meeting a goal. If you don’t establish the next one, you coast and end up back where you started.
Following your blog has helped me change my focus from # on the scale to total health and enthusiasm about life! I am 24 pounds down with 10 more to go. I ran my first 5K last month, am trying lots of new things besides.
Thanks from someone old enough to be your mom!
Dude, enough with the teasers! I can’t wait to hear what the new goal is!
I love your attitude that this is a HUGE milestone but it’s not the end or even the pinnacle. THAT is what will keep you fit and healthy for a lifetime.
And I’m with you in wanting to do bigger and better things, always. My big/fun/scary news is that I joined a softball team. I know no one, and I haven’t played in years…here’s hoping I don’t make a total idiot of myself!
Secret Goals=Fun.
Yay Fun.
Good one.. turn the weight loss blog into a body reshaping blog. I imagine your family doctor is a lot happier to see you these days!
I don’t know whose more excited. You because its your weigh in or me because I get to be a part of it.
Perfect point of view, Tyler! (I keep wanting to call you “Ty”). It’s all about continuous improvement. And you’ve got it!
I feel honored to be able to watch your journey thus far. Awesome!
Crossing fingers – UNDER 200!!!!
Tyler– You have been such an inspiration, because of you I am about to reach my half-way point of my journey to lose 160 pounds. On January 24th I weighed 320 pounds, and hopefully on May 20th, I will weigh 240. Tyler, to see you weigh in tomorrow and be under 200lbs will be even more inspiration, and it will tell me that I can do it! I will eventually be 199lbs and lower!
I’m not much of a “commenter”, but I’ve been following your blog for a few months now, and you are seriously an inspiration, brother. Keep up the good wrk and positive attitude. It’s truly contagious. I’ve gone from 325 to 299 since the middle of March. My goal is 205. Just wanted to say “thanks”
Tyler,
I am 54 years old and I still have a whole lot of stuff I am going to do yet. And I am just referring to this year alone.
I would love to join that dance on Wednesday!
Tyler, I hope your goals include teaching others about weight loss and getting fit. You have inspired so many here to at least begin the journey. Thanks for all you do for us!
You look great already. Keep up the good work. I will continue watching your progress. And now a lot of people have someone to look up to and get ideas of how they can change there life.
I’m not sure if this is my favorite of all your posts, or the one from 5/5/10 saying that you’ve reached your goal. Let’s call it a tie. I was relieved to read this post as I didn’t find your blog until Jan. 2010, so you got much more of a head start on your weight loss journey than me. Your blog has been very uplifting, and I was afraid of what would happen once you reached your goal…but it sounds like you have far more in store for all of us–I can’t wait!! In the meantime, congratulations on getting below 200…I can’t wait to get there too!
Found your blog while looking around for info about Les Mills classes. I took BodyATTACK two weeks ago and it really kicked my butt. I’ve since been to it again as well as to a Combat and Pump class. They are fun.
Congratulations on meeting your goal!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
