Week 67: Weigh-in Results

May 6, 2010

I didn’t have a whole lot to say yesterday.

May 5 weight: 199.8
April 28 weight: 202.8
April 21 weight: 200
April 14 weight: 201
April 7 weight: 201.8

I’ve lost 3 pounds in the last week and lost 144.4 pounds in 67 weeks. Want previous stats? Check out my entire 67 week weight loss progress.

We did it.

We came from 344 pounds and ended up at 199.  We came from 0 comments on week 1 to 100+ yesterday within just a few hours.  I’m just flattered and shocked by how many this journey has reached.

Tomorrow night I’ll be running in the Special Olympics Torch Run thanks to Jonathan Norman.  The run (not timed) starts at the State House and goes seven miles to Ft. Jackson.  For years my dad worked to help individuals with intellectual disabilities acquire jobs, housing, etc.  I’ve always supported the Special Olympics and will continue to do so any way I can in the future.

This Saturday we’ll be headed to my in-law’s for a good ole fashioned southern BBQ, then to my mom’s in Charleston to spend Mother’s Day with her.

When we get back, I’ll post the big plans in store for myself and the blog.

In the meantime, what are your big plans?

Congrats again.

My plans? Long term – keeping my weight off for another decade. Short term – running 2 or 3 more marathons this year.

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:34 PM

How many have you ran so far?

Charity May 6, 2010 at 6:36 PM

Welcome to Onederland, young man!

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:34 PM

Thanks. I’d like to enjoy my stay for a little while.

Chris Pugh May 6, 2010 at 6:36 PM

My plans are to just keep on losing weight until I reach my goal. After that, who knows. Keep up the god work!

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:39 PM

Thanks, I’ll keep up the good work too :)

Jooly May 6, 2010 at 6:48 PM

YAAAAAAAY! Many congratulations to you.

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:40 PM

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks.

Jaime May 6, 2010 at 6:52 PM

Doing awesome Tyler! I read your blog daily and it helps me stick on track. I have a lot to lose like you did and it seems like so far away. It’s nice to see someone who’s made it the entire road, way to go!

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:40 PM

I’m glad you read every day, I appreciate it. Do you have any suggestions on what I should write about?

Tabitha May 6, 2010 at 7:04 PM

Way to go!!

My big plans are maybe not as big as yours, but I’ve started weighing in every Wednesday on my blog, and my ultimate goal is to get down to 150 (ideally 145) and stay there. On the shorter term, my work is actually starting a 12-week “Shape Up” program, and I’ve organized a team of 11 people who are going to spend these next 12 weeks trying to lose the most weight, exercise the most minutes, and/or walk the most steps per day. Each person can choose any or all of those three goals, and as captain I get to cheer everyone on! Yay!

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:41 PM

Nice. That’s a great way to stay accountable to each other. Oh, and work hard and give us all a good weigh-in next Wednesday. I’ll be tuning in to see how good you did!

TwMi May 6, 2010 at 7:31 PM

Tyler– You are amazing! I thought the picture said enough. Everyone I met yesterday, I told them your story and how it has influenced me! I weighed in yesterday as well, and I have lost 72lbs since January 24th, 8 more pounds until my short term, 80 pound goal on May 20th. Thank you, to you Tyler, you really are an inspiration!

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:41 PM

That’s an amazing amount of weight to lose since January 24th, congratulations on your success!

Tara May 6, 2010 at 7:45 PM

I kept coming back to yesterday’s post because it was just so fantastic Tyler. I’m sure the gals in my gym locker room think I’m a little crazy since I gave a resounding “YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS” while checking to see what your weigh in would be.

I’ve got some big stuff coming up in the next few weeks. Next weekend I’m walking a half marathon with some friends. The following week I’m running my FIRST 5K! And by the end of the month I will cross over that 50 pound mark!

I can’t believe I just said that: 50 pounds gone by the end of May!

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:43 PM

Congrats, Tara. Your comments always make me smile. Can you shoot me an e-mail to tyler at 344pounds dot com? I’d like to talk with you about something.

Thanks!

sara May 6, 2010 at 7:59 PM

My plan is to lose 15 more pounds before pregnancy, then to get back to my starting weight, and hopefully lose 5 to 10 more. I plan to walk a half marathon in September, and to start jogging.

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:43 PM

Solid plan, Sara. Want to have a boy, girl, or don’t care either way?

beej May 6, 2010 at 8:28 PM

Yeah, the real deal! So awesome! But seriously? Still keeping us waiting, huh?

Hope you have a great weekend!

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:44 PM

Oh, it’s not for suspense, it’s just I don’t have the time to type up a long elaborate, in-depth post right now. I’d rather take the time and do it right.

Awesome blog, beej. Everyone should read it.

Lynne Garcia May 6, 2010 at 8:51 PM

It’s so awesome that you’ve made it below 200. Great job. I’m excited that you are doing the torch run. I did the torch run in Lee County, FL last Friday. It was cool. Ours was 10 miles. We could run and/or bike all or part of it. I biked 8 and ran the last 2, which went over a bridge. It was brutal but quite an experience. Anyways, congratulations again!

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:46 PM

It’ll be my first torch run. I know there will be a lot of law enforcement out there with me, I’ll try not to do anything stupid.

A few years ago I was solicited for donations for the Torch Run, now I’m participating in it. My how life changes.

Dan May 6, 2010 at 9:44 PM

I’m banking on you setting your sights on a bodybuilding competition…

Tyler May 6, 2010 at 9:45 PM

No comment, Dan the BLABBERMOUTH.

:)

Mary May 6, 2010 at 10:13 PM

Tyler you’re rockin this! I’m really proud of you staying so focused with so much going on in your life right now. You’ve gotten what so many people don’t get. Life happens. Sometimes it really sucks. You’re dad I’m sure was so proud of you. You’ll continue his and your own passion. I really like reading your blog. You are an inspiration to so many. Be proud. Take care of you.

R.H May 6, 2010 at 10:37 PM

Tyler, you are the man! You worked so hard, and deserve that 199.8. You’ve inspired me even further to hit below 200 by August. I only have 39 pounds to go, and I know I can do it! That’s my biggest plan right now. After that it’s on to 175 pounds. Other than losing weight, you’ve inspired me to run a 5K next summer. I can’t wait because it’s something I’ve never thought I could do until now! Thanks for the awesome inspiration, and congratulations again! You are epic!

R.H May 6, 2010 at 10:42 PM

I was also wondering, do you have an ultimate goal in mind of what you want to hit. I read that you were going to be doing more weight training when you hit under 200, but I wasn’t sure if you planned to go for a final goal weight.

jerry May 7, 2010 at 7:00 AM

I plan on losing as much weight as possible before July 14th, which is the due date for our first child. (its a girl)

I also plan on breaking out of the 290′s and into the 280′s this week. It was really rewarding just to be under 300, I of course am hungry for 250, and then seeing if I can reach the Tyler goal of under 200.

Also, I plan on moving into our first house this month – and I really think it will be nice to be able to carry stuff and be useful again.

Deanna May 7, 2010 at 8:12 AM

Tyler CONGRATS! I love sharing your story and you’ve come a long way. I only had to lose 50 pounds it was hard and one of my biggest events is tomorrow when I run the Indianapolis half marathon something I never dreamed remotely possible. Thanks for being so insspiring.

Sonia May 7, 2010 at 8:27 AM

I can’t remember how I stumbled across your blog, but boy am I glad I did! I love reading your posts. You are such an inspiration to me! You are a REAL person with real struggles and real triumphs…but I think my favorite thing is your positive attitude and your internal drive for success. The world would be a much better place if we would all surround ourselves with friends like you. Thank you sharing your story and your life with us. And know that you are amazing and you are making a difference!

ElExGordo May 7, 2010 at 10:12 AM

Running/jogging/walking my first 5K on July 5th. I’ve been off track since having gallbladder surgery a couple of weeks ago, and excited to get back into my exercise routine.

Thank you for sharing your experience and your words of encouragement. Good luck on your next adventure!

The Roly Poly Boy May 7, 2010 at 3:06 PM

My plans are just to continue with what I’m doing so far. Actually, I have varied things a bit.

I’ve been “eating clean” since Monday, and the results so far have been outstanding. Jumped up my cardio to five days a week now, too.

I’m going to eat clean M-F, relax a bit on Sat and Sun. I’ve been weighing myself daily of late too…I kind of like it. Makes me adjust from day to day, rather than week to week.

Great job again, by the way. And, awesome on the Special Olympics. Something to be proud of!

Amy May 7, 2010 at 3:07 PM

I plan on keeping up with you =D

I also plan on allowing myself some flexibility to deal with the unexpected and have some fun. To realize that nurse’s day at work is not really a great reason to have a piece of cake but my son’s birthday is. And that gaining 5 lbs when I go on vacation is not an excuse to continue, but a motivator to get back to it.

To bad it took me till 37 to figure that out.

ty May 7, 2010 at 7:19 PM

I plan to keep up the loss and hit my first marathon in october. Down 70 pounds now since January 260-190 and falling…also running 15 miles tomorrow :D

kate May 7, 2010 at 9:02 PM

Just posting another yay.

YAY!!!

Lyn May 7, 2010 at 9:02 PM

Hey, you’re doing great!

My big plans: to enjoy my children every day because they are not going to be children forever. And to get to my goal weight THIS year!

LJ May 8, 2010 at 6:40 AM

My big plans start this morning, when I begin my training group runs for a 4 mile run at the end of June. Wish me luck – I’m a little nervous! After that, it’s spending time with my Mom and Mother-in-law for Mother’s Day weekend :)

Jay May 9, 2010 at 3:19 AM

Nice Tyler, my plans for the week are having fun in Vegas and then heading to friends engagement party in Louisiana. It should be a fun week. :)

Rick May 9, 2010 at 10:29 PM

Since we started within a few pounds of each other I have followed your site closely. As of Jan. 4th I have now lost 76 lbs and have 24 to reach my goal. I will most likely try to lose another 30 pounds after the big 100.

You have even motivated me to start my own blog:

http://operationfortyfour.blogspot.com/

Trying to lose 100 pounds by my 44th birtday in July. Only 24 pounds to go!!

Thanks for being one of my many inspirations.

Rick

Here I am, back again. It’s been 10 weeks, and you did it. I was completely wrong. I totally underestimated you and your commitment. I’m almost vain enough to have hoped I was right, but I am glad I was wrong. Wow. 199. That’s impressive. You deserve it.
