Starting a Kickball Team in Columbia, SC

Want to lose weight? My story has been featured on CBS' The Doctors, CNN, and The Huffington Post. Learn how I lost over 125 pounds (100lbs in 6 months!) by clicking here.

The short, non-competitive kickball league through my wife’s school district ended last night.  We lost in the first round of the playoffs to a score of 15-1.

Heads were down after the massacre.

Oh well, better luck in five weeks.

In five weeks a “competitive” (there’s never a time when I’m not competitive) kickball league starts through the Richland County Recreation Commission (PDF registration form).  The league hosts an eight game season with playoffs, trophies, etc, just like how it was when you/I played sports as a kid.  We never actually held a practice or met outside of games with my wife’s school district (not like I blame them for a 3-game season), but we certainly will hold practice with this league, probably once a week for two hours.

My ultimate goal is to the win the league, but if we come up short it’s still a great way to socialize and burn a bunch of calories a couple days a week.

If you haven’t tried an adult sports league, I highly recommend giving it a shot.  Most of them aren’t very competitive and people just want to play to have fun, socialize, and stay in shape.  You always get “the guy” who was a quarterback in the state championship for his high school 12 years ago that wants to redeem himself for the game-ending interception, but they’re rare.

Just go out and have fun, even if you’re not the sports type.

Take a look at your local YMCA, county recreation commission, even your workplace might have a sports league going on if it’s large enough.

Anybody else playing any sports this winter/spring?  Any suggestions for my team name, colors, etc?  If you’re local, want to even join the team?
