My name is Shawn Tyler Weeks and I’m the man behind the curtain. I started 344Pounds.com in January of 2009 — at the time, I weighed 344.2 pounds and was classified as morbidly obese.
I started 344Pounds.com, commonly called a “weight loss blog,” to act as a form of weight loss accountability. In one of my first blog posts on 344 Pounds, I announced my commitment and intent to lose the extra weight that I had been carrying around with me for nearly my entire life.
I knew was that I was going to die if I didn’t lose weight – and fast.
Once I published my intent to lose weight, I reluctantly e-mailed the link to the post on 344 Pounds to all of my family and friends. It was horrifying for someone who had been sensitive about his weight his entire life, but I knew that the public shame and accountability would keep me motivated. I knew that if I failed to lose weight yet again (attempt #436 or something like that), not only would I be letting myself down, but all of the people that loved and cared for me as well.
I couldn’t let that happen. And fortunately, I didn’t. I lost over 100 pounds in six months by counting calories and completely changed my life. Over time, I lost another 40 pounds or so and today weigh around 200 pounds.
I used and continue to use 344 Pounds to chronicle my weight loss transformation and write about anything weight loss related – tips, product reviews, observations, etc. As of today, there are over 700 blog posts and my weight loss and 344 Pounds have been featured on CNN, CBS, Newsweek, and many more media outlets.
