<p>I&#8217;ve rarely been late with a weigh-in, but we had no power yesterday after getting back from out of town.  Apparently, storms knocked out electricity to our area Tuesday night and it was only just restored early this morning.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a good example of how we have no control sometimes.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m excited, anxious, and a little nervous about weighing in again.  I don&#8217;t really consider the scale the absolute measurement of my health anymore like I used to, but it is a measurement.  I have built muscles over the past few months, so I expect to gain weight, but I know if I&#8217;ve gained 20+ pounds or more I can&#8217;t exactly blame all of it on my newly found muscles.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll just wait and see how next week goes before I start guessing or making excuses.  Hopefully, I&#8217;ve only gained about 10-15 pounds in my quest for muscles. Anything more and next Wednesday will be a disappointment.</p>

<p>I picked up a weight last night at the gym, the same 25-pound dumbbell I have the last few gym sessions to perform a &#8220;one arm dumbbell row.&#8221;  If you don&#8217;t know what that is, don&#8217;t worry, neither do I.  It&#8217;s not important, anyway.</p>
<p>Just know it&#8217;s supposed to make you big and strong.</p>
<p>I picked up the 25-pound dumbbell from where it always had been, got back over to the bench and started the exercise.  Only, something was off &#8212; it was too light &#8212; too easy to lift.  I actually looked down and checked the weight.</p>
<p>&#8220;25 pounds&#8221; was etched into the iron.</p>
<p>I switched the 25-pound for the 30-pound dumbbell for a dozen reps and discovered it was too light, as well.  I went to the 35-pound, which I kept using, as it managed to put up a little bit of a fight.  I would speculate that within a few weeks I&#8217;ll be moving to a 40-pound dumbbell.</p>
<p>It looks like I&#8217;m not only moving forward, but moving up as well.</p>

<p>Still gaining strength week by week.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m really looking forward to start weighing myself every Wednesday.  While the number doesn&#8217;t carry the same importance these days, I will still use it to measure progress.  Starting in August it will be nice to not only look at the visual change, but to put a numerical value on it as well.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m eating 200 grams of protein a day, trying to get a lot of fiber, and generally sticking to around 2,000 calories a day.  I drink nothing but water except for the occasional cup or two of 1% milk.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s boring.  But hear this:  boring food makes for exciting bodies.</p>
<p>As far as last weekend, it&#8217;s forgotten.  Done.  What I did last weekend just doesn&#8217;t matter anymore.  All that matters is what I&#8217;m about to do.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m about to go to the gym.</p>

<p>Two things.</p>
<p>One, not so important:  I stole this week&#8217;s opening line from the movie Twister, copyrighted Warner Bros. and Universal Studios.   Just thought I&#8217;d throw that in there, I know the movie/music industry is suing everyone these days;  I&#8217;d rather not go to jail and miss Deadliest Catch.</p>
<p>Secondly, and of actual importance (to my mother and maybe three other people), I&#8217;ll be officially weighing in again on August 4th.  I originally had my next weigh-in date set for July 28th, then I realized that&#8217;s two days after my birthday and two days before my anniversary.  We&#8217;ll probably be on vacation that week, celebrating the start of the week as I turn 25 and finish it by being married for 5 years.</p>
<p>Cheaper insurance on Monday (26th) and 5 years of marriage by Friday (30th).  I might even get my wife a present for this anniversary.</p>
<p>Lawsuits, weigh-ins, and cheaper insurance aside, I&#8217;m still working out 4-5 days a week.  My diet is really sloppy right now, as are the diets of most folks right before/during a holiday.  It&#8217;s fine though.  It&#8217;s just a few days.  I&#8217;m not going overboard, I&#8217;m just at the rail.  Come next Tuesday, I might even start counting calories again for a short while to regain focus.</p>
